Learning Reflection Box

A.    What are you currently learning about in Social Studies? Give some examples

of what you have learned this unit.

In class right now, we have been learning about how the colonists rebelled against British rule and the journey they went through to establish independence for the United States of America.

B.    What do you enjoy about this particular SS unit?  Explain.

I enjoyed seeing how the colonies came together and somehow pulled off beating the world's strongest country at the time in war. I also enjoyed seeing the persistence and resillience of the colonists and how they fought until they  got what they wanted.

C.    What do you find challenging about this particular SS unit?  Explain.

Because so many important events occured and so many people played a part in getting freedom for the United States, I found it hard remember people's names and the order in which the events occured.

D.    What is something you have done well in this SS unit?  Explain.

I did well in making sure I knew what everything was and when it happened. Although it was difficult I managed to learn the key people and key events from this unit.

E.    What is something you would like to improve?  Explain on how you plan to

make improvements.

I would like to improve on my comparison of loyalists and patriots. At the end of the unit i came out with a pretty clear understanding of their differences but I would like to go into those differences with more detail rather than keeping it vague.

Learning Log

The colonist rebelled for many reasons. One being that they wanted the crazy laws and taxes of England to be gone. England taxed their tea, their paper and more and most colonists were sick of it. The heart of the revolution was in Boston where there was tension between the Patriots and the Loyalists. The Patriots rebelled against England while the Loyalists supported the crown and stuck by them. One of the Patriots most popular method was the boycott, where they stopped buying goods from England in order to suffer their economy. Overall, the colonist mainly rebelled because of their hope for freedom and to be able to get rid of some of the taxes England was laying on them. They had no idea at the time that they were capable of gaining independence.
